The world's largest aquaculture technology exhibition Aqua Nor 2025 kicks off today in Trondheim, Norway, bringing together the world’s leading players in aquaculture technology and research from 19-21 August.

Now in its fifth decade, Aqua Nor has grown into the largest aquaculture technology event in the world. This year, the show features more than 700 exhibitors and welcomes close to 25,000 visitors from over 75 countries.

The expo was preceded by the Aqua Nor Conference, held on 18 August at the Clarion Hotel Trondheim, which featured a diverse program of experts, innovators, and policymakers. Key themes included Norway’s role in meeting global seafood demand, new approaches to seaweed cultivation, advancements in gender sorting for salmon smolt, digital tools for risk management, and water-quality solutions for land-based farming.

The Aqua Nor trade show will also feature a wide variety of seminars, technical demonstrations, and networking sessions that encourage dialogue across the value chain.

Meanwhile, across the exhibition halls, visitors can explore the latest equipment, software, and services designed to improve efficiency and environmental performance, from automated feeding systems and smart sensors to offshore structures and land-based recirculating systems.

In addition to the six indoor halls at the Trondheim Spektrum venue, the event extends to an outdoor harbour area at Skansen, where larger installations and vessels are showcased.

Three finalists for Aqua Nor Innovation Award 2025

The expo programme will also see the winner of this year's Aqua Nor Innovation Award announced, with three groundbreaking solutions selected as the finalists competing for this year’s accolade: UltraAQ, for its autonomous electric net cleaner, Greenfox Marine AS, selected for its fully automated gender-sorting and health screening system, and Circmar AS for its sustainable packaging concept designed to phase out single-use boxes and pallets.

10-year agreement signed at Aqua Nor between trade show organisers and Trondheim municipality

A key milestone at this year’s event is the signing, announced today, of a new ten-year agreement between the Nor-Fishing Foundation and the Municipality of Trondheim. The letter of intent secures Trondheim Spektrum as the home venue for Aqua Nor and Nor-Fishing fairs well into the next decade.

In a press release announcing the agreement, Trondheim City councillor Kristian Dahlberg Hauge emphasized the long-term value of the deal, estimating ripple effects of up to three billion NOK for the local business community over ten years.

The agreement was also welcomed by the Nor-Fishing Foundation as a guarantee of continuity for two of the world’s most influential seafood technology fairs, and as recognition of Trondheim’s position as both a host city and an innovation center for the aquaculture industry.
