The former Chief Strategy Director of Grieg Seafood had announced her departure from the Norwegian seafood giant in April.

"I believe that when one door closes, another opens – and I look forward to exploring what the future will bring." With those words, written just over two months ago on her LinkedIn profile, Nina Stangeland closed her time at Grieg Seafood. It hasn't taken long for that window to open, and it has done so with a view to Canada, since, as Stangeland herself announced, she has joined High Liner Foods as Managing Director Salmon.

Yesterday, again via her LinkedIn profile and accompanied by a photo showing her in front of a skyline of skyscrapers in Toronto, the executive wrote: "The buildings are high, so are our ambitions for Salmon. I am humble, motivated and excited to join the competent team of High Liner Foods."

"This week I have met my new colleagues in the leadership team in Toronto to discuss how we can reach our salmon growth ambitions. I really look forward to starting the journey of contributing to more delicious, sustainable salmon to the North American market," she added.

Following the announcement - in which Stangeland thanked CEO Paul Jewer and the company's Executive Vice President Human Resources, Johanne McNally Myers for their trust, and for giving her the opportunity to contribute to High Liner Foods' "exciting journey" - messages of congratulations have poured in, not only from her new and former colleagues, but also from well-known names in the salmon industry.

Not surprisingly, in addition to a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Oslo and the University of Cape Town, Nina Stangeland has extensive experience in business development and finance in the fishing, maritime, and financial sectors. Her previous position, as mentioned, was Strategy Director at Grieg Seafood.

In that role, she was responsible for leading on a sustainable basis the advancement of corporate strategy to continue to grow the business in all regions, countries, and segments, including Canada, where her new company is headquartered and which, during her time at Grieg, she visited on several occasions.

Previously, the new Managing Director Salmon of High Liner Foods, held positions such as, for example, Managing Director of the NCE Seafood Innovation Group, a 130-member initiative to promote innovation and sustainability in the Norwegian fishing industry, which she led for four years. In addition, she is also an experienced board member and has held various positions in companies such as Bergen Group, Sparebanken Vest, and Bridgehead.

For its part, her new company is a North American leader in the processing and marketing of value-added frozen seafood. Its products are retailed in the U.S. and Canada under various brands such as High Liner, Fisher Boy, Mirabel, Sea Cuisine and Catch of the Day, which have recently been joined by Mrs. Paul's and Van de Kamp's, after High Liner Foods acquired these two U.S. frozen seafood brands from Conagra earlier this month.

Recognized as a global leader in improving best practices in wild fisheries and aquaculture, High Liner Foods also sells branded products to restaurants and institutions under the High Liner, Icelandic Seafood, Mirabel and FPI brands, and are a leading supplier of private label, value-added frozen seafood products to North American food retailers and foodservice distributors.
