Aquaculture Driving Blue Transformation is the theme of the forthcoming conference World Aquaculture 2026 in Tanzania.

Tanzania’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has formally launched World Aquaculture 2026 Tanzania, an international conference which is expected to attract more than 2,000 delegates from over 100 countries.
The event will take place from 1 to 4 December 2026 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, and is being organised by the World Aquaculture Society in partnership with the Tanzanian ministry under the theme “Aquaculture Driving Blue Transformation”.
The launch was held last week at the Tanzania Fisheries Corporation and led by Livestock and Fisheries Minister Ambassador Dr Bashiru Ally Kakurwa. The launch event included the signing of a hosting agreement setting out the responsibilities of the ministry and the World Aquaculture Society. Universities, research institutes, seafood businesses, the Aquaculture Association of Tanzania and members of the World Aquaculture Society were also represented at the launch.
The event will bring together researchers, producers, policymakers, investors and development organisations from throughout the aquaculture sector, with presentations to be delivered in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic.
The programme will include scientific and technical presentations, policy discussions, business meetings, workshops, student activities and an international exhibition covering products and services across the aquaculture value chain. Visits to fish farms, markets and aquaculture research centres are also planned.

Tanzania's hosting of the conference reflects the growing importance of its aquaculture sector, with the event also providing a platform to present the country's aquaculture development, blue economy plans and wider investment potential to an international audience, World Aquaculture Society indicated.
Last week's launch also included the release of the Aquatic Foods Recipe Book – Tanzania, developed by the government with WorldFish and Aquatic BioSolutions Tanzania under the PROFISHBLUE programme - with the aim of encouraging consumption of aquatic foods, as well as improving nutrition and supporting the development of fisheries and aquaculture markets.
