Willumsen Grieg has been interim CEO of the company since March, and has overseen the sale of Grieg Seafood's operations in Finnmark and Canada to Cermaq.

Grieg Seafood has announced the appointment of its new permanent CEO, Nina Willumsen Grieg.

Willumsen Grieg, formerly Regional Director of Grieg Rogaland and a member of the Norwegian seafood group's founding family, took over as interim CEO on 30 March 2025 following the resignation of Andreas Kvame after disastrous results in 2024 where Grieg's EBIT fell by nearly 99%.

The announcement came as part of the company's presentation this morning of its results for the second quarter of 2025.

Sale of operations to Cermaq

Soon after taking the reins, Willumsen Grieg said the company would now aim to “shift from growth to profitability”, with a renewed focus on Norway and a decision to scale back in Canada. "We will proritise initiatives that strengthen equity, reduce debt and protect cash flow," she said at the time.

That ultimately led to the decision to sell off a significant part of Grieg's operations, with the news, as reported by WeAreAqauculture in July, that Cermaq Group would be acquiring Grieg's regional subsidiaries in Finnmark, Newfoundland and British Columbia, in a deal valued at NOK 10.2 billion, or around EUR 855 million / USD 995 million. The transaction is expected to be finalised during Q4 2025.

“This transaction will position both Grieg Seafood and the regions for the future. It allows us to concentrate focus and resources in Rogaland. We aim to continue to be a strong actor in the advancement of sustainable aquaculture in Norway,” Willumsen Grieg said at the time.

Arrivals and departures at Grieg this year

In addition to the new CEO, the company has also undergone a series of senior management changes in first half of the year. Grieg appointed a new CFO, Magnus Johannesen, in February, and in April, Chief Strategy Director, Nina Stangeland, and Global Quality Assurance Director, Martin Mjos-Haugland departed the company.

In May Grieg Seafood announced that Chairman of the Board and company founder Per Grieg Jr. was stepping down, after 33 years with the company.
