Grieg Seafood announced today that, after 33 years as the company's founder, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, Per Grieg Jr. has decided to step down from the Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting to be held on June 4, 2025.

"It has been a true privilege to develop and lead Grieg Seafood throughout these years. I am lucky to have worked with many fantastic colleagues in both Norway and abroad. I am proud to have played a role in developing Norway's second largest export industry from local communities along the coast," said Per Grieg Jr.

"Now it is time to pass the baton to a new generation. I will be rooting for Grieg Seafood and the salmon farming industry from the sidelines," he added in the statement announcing his resignation.

Per Grieg Jr. moved from shipping to the salmon farming industry in 1992, when he co-founded the sales company Grieg Seafood Salmon. Over more than three decades, he has developed Grieg Seafood into the ninth largest salmon farming company in the world, with production in Finnmark and Rogaland in Norway, as well as in British Columbia and Newfoundland in Canada.

Thus, since acquiring a stake in small salmon farms in Rogaland in 1993, Grieg Seafood is now a company with a market value of approximately NOK 7.7 billion (EUR 663.2 million / USD 743.1 million), planning to harvest 84,000 tons of salmon in 2025.

He had already stepped down as Chairman in March

Although the news of the resignation from the Board was released today at the same time as the notice of the 2025 Annual General Meeting, the company now reported that Grieg Jr. had already stepped down as Chairman and become a regular member of the Board in March 2025, when it was announced that Nina Willumsen Grieg had been appointed as interim CEO.

The temporary appointment of Willumsen Grieg as CEO - until then serving as Regional Director of Grieg Seafood Rogaland - followed Andreas Kvame's departure after ten years at the helm of the Norwegian seafood giant.

In a stock exchange notice at the time, Grieg Seafood's Board of Directors confirmed that it had initiated the process of searching for a new CEO. According to today's statement, the process to hire the permanent Chief Executive Officer is still ongoing.

Just over a fortnight after Kvame's departure, we learned that Grieg Seafood's Chief Strategy Director, Nina Stangeland, and Global Quality Assurance Director, Martin Mjos-Haugland, were also leaving the company.

Grieg Seafood is currently going through a challenging moment as reflected in the operational update for the first quarter of 2025, released last week, reporting layoffs and mixed performance across its Norwegian and Canadian farming operations.
