The Deputy for Economic Promotion, Ainara Basurko, and the Director General of Entrepreneurship, Talent, and Business Competitiveness of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Joseba Mariezkurrena, visited Zunibal company headquarters in Bilbao Spain, to get a first-hand look at its technologies and projects.

Zunibal uses artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to improve fishing areas, tuna identification models, trajectory prediction, biomass estimation, and detection of target species.

According to the Basque company, these innovations minimize bycatch but also facilitate the selection of the optimal fishing route, optimizing the ratio of tons caught per nautical mile and significantly reducing the industry's carbon footprint.

The Provincial Council of Bizkaia promotes industrial development programs in which Zunibal participates, enabling the company to enhance its international positioning.

Finally, the meeting concluded with a collective reflection on the needs, challenges, and opportunities for future collaborative work for a more sustainable fishing sector.
