Blue Star Foods Corp. has communicated the beginning of its soft-shell crab production in South Carolina for the 2024 season, under the valid license issued by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

According to CEO John Keeler, its RAS platform compiles more than 100 tanks and uses the Bio-Plan, result of the team members expertise in Blue Crab and derived species.

"Currently, we have more demand than what can supply with full tanks of crab peelers. The Bio-Plan contains the parameters necessary to maintain optimal water conditions in each stage and results in our ability to produce a sustainable balance for what crab fisheries can supply against the rapid growth in soft shell crab demand," he explained.

In February, Blue Star Foods signed a Master Service Agreement with a vertically integrated seafood value-added provider. The seafood provider prepares and distributes its gourmet meals through 2,776 retail outlets.

Regarding this initiative, Keeler said: "We are thrilled to join forces with this team in what is truly a transformational event for Blue Star Foods. Under its current leadership in business development and sales and its chef’s wizardry in the creation of avant-garde gourmet recipes, they have built a $20 million annual business."
