This year's Seafood Expo North America / Seafood Processing North America (SENA) is underway in Boston, marking the 43rd edition of the event.
The seafood trade event, the largest in North America, opened its doors on March 16 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, featuring 1,215 exhibiting companies from 51 countries.
Newly-participating countries for this year's expo include Bahrain, Croatia, Ireland, Mauritius, Puerto Rico, United Arab Emirates, in addition to "an increased presence" from China, Ecuador, France, Japan, Norway and Vietnam, according to event organizers Diversified.
“The strong presence of global seafood companies at this year’s edition reinforces the importance of having a platform where the industry can come together to forage new partnerships, conduct business and identify and address unique challenges,” said Wynter Courmont, Vice President of Seafood at Diversified, in a press release marking the opening day of the event.
“Over the next three days, there will be numerous opportunities for attendees to learn about new products, processing and equipment and the industry at large through the conference program, keynote address, product demonstrations, the Seafood Excellence Awards reception and more," Courmont added.
A highlight of the opening day was the 2025 Seafood Excellence Awards, which selected 11 finalists from a total of 68 entries during a live judging event by a panel of seafood buyers and industry experts from the retail and foodservice industries.
The top two honours went to Icy Waters, LLC, which won the “Best New Retail Product” award for its Atlantic Salmon with a Guinness Sweet Honey Mustard Melt & Panko Crumb and American Unagi Inc., which was awarded “Best New Foodservice Product” for its Gluten Free Eel Kabayaki Fillet.
The products were judged based on several criteria, including uniqueness and appropriateness to the market, taste profile, market potential, convenience, nutritional value and originality.
