Thai Union Group PCL has announced the launch of SeaChange 2030, a sustainability plan that aims to reshape the seafood industry for a sustainable future.

This plan arises from a crystal-clear reality: the world needs change and protection. Year after year, reports of the effects of climate change are increasing, for that reason, protecting ecosystems is at the center of measures. Thai Union has therefore pledged THB 7.2 billion (EUR 181 million/ USD 200 million) to advance sustainability goals.

"The seafood industry needs to do more when it comes to caring for our people, our planet, and our oceans," said Adam Brennan, Chief Sustainability Officer of Thai Union. "The time for aggressive action is now. Through SeaChange, we aim to drive meaningful improvements across the entire global seafood industry."

The initiative is a further step in the strategy that was created in 2016. A plan that seeks to fulfill 11 interconnected goals that will positively impact the planet and people. These commitments actively support 10 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Broad and ambitious goals but needed by the Planet

The concrete proposals for the SeaChange 2030 strategy by Thai Union Group PCL encompass objectives such as emissions reduction, responsible fishing and aquaculture, ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture, safe and equitable work, reduction of ocean plastics, and sustainable packaging, among other initiatives. In addition, it is worth noting that the company is aligning its net zero goals with the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative to drive the deployment of new environmental data collection tools to achieve a net zero economy. Thai Union is the first global seafood company to set SBTi-verified targets.

The company's sustainable approach has earned it recognition, ranking No. 1 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for nine consecutive years. With SeaChange 2030, the Thai Union seeks to lead change in the fishing industry. Moreover, for this purpose, the company calls for the collaboration of communities, governments, and organizations to achieve significant structural changes in the seafood industry and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world.

"At Thai Union, we view SeaChange as our license to operate," said Thiraphong Chansiri, President and CEO of Thai Union. "We believe it is important to treat the resources we rely upon responsibly. We can nourish people and provide work in communities for generations to come. Our vision is to be the world's most trusted seafood leader and SeaChange 2030 helps us get there. The changes we will achieve through this strategy are crucial for the good of us all."
