It has done so in partnership with Palle Jakobsen, General Manager of Ingenieria Graintec Chile, who after this acquisition has taken over the position of GM of Simatek Chile.

From now on, Ingenieria Graintec Chile Ltda. will be renamed Simatek Bulk Systems Ltda. It will continue to serve existing customers by focusing on new segments such as the food, mining, and pure chemical industries, but will also be responsible for selling Simatek Universal Elevators in Latin America.

Bankruptcy of parent company in Denmark

Founded in 1984, Graintec specialized in supplying salmon feed plants and feeding solutions to the salmon farming industry worldwide, and its customers included well-known names in the industry such as Mowi in Norway and Proximar in Japan.

The deal that has now brought Simatek Bulk Systems and Palle Jakobsen together to acquire its subsidiary in Chile follows the bankruptcy of the parent company last August, when we learned the Norwegian company Salmo Terra had gone bankrupt and taken its Danish RAS contractor, Graintec, with it.

The Salmo Terra project described by Graintec's CEO Michael Mortensen in 2021 as "an important milestone for Graintec," was to be the company's first foray into the design and construction of RAS fish farms.

The project aimed to become Norway's largest land-based salmon farm. However, after the Norwegian land-based salmon producer failed to secure the necessary funding to carry it out, it appeared a step too far for Graintec.

Maintaining and expanding current service

Simatek Bulk Systems specializes in the mechanical conveying of fragile bulk goods. For more than 40 years, it has been a globally recognized supplier of pendulum bucket elevators.

In announcing the acquisition, the company highlighted that over the years, more than 200 Simatek Universal Elevators have been installed in Chile, mainly in the aquafeed, pet food, and seed industries.

Following the acquisition of Ingeniería Graintec Chile, Simatek will not only continue the business of the aquaculture technology supplier but, as mentioned, the Chilean office will also be responsible for sales of its universal lifts in the region.

"We will continue delivering our same high-quality services and widespread Simatek market shares in current and new industries all over Latin America," said on his LinkedIn profile Palle Jakobsen, General Manager and now also co-owner of Simatek Chile, in announcing the acquisition.
