An outbreak of Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA) has been confirmed at the salmon farm in Ullensvang, Vestland, Norway. Bremnes Seashore and Bolaks are the operators of the farm. The Food Safety Authority was notified of the suspected ISA case on January 27, 2023, and samples were taken from the fish on January 31st. The ISA diagnosis was confirmed on February 8th, following an inspection of the fish and analysis of results from the Veterinary Institute.

To prevent the spread of the disease, the salmon farm has been subjected to restrictions, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. The slaughtering of fish has already begun, starting in the ponds with infected fish.

A restriction zone, consisting of a protective zone and a monitoring zone, will soon be established to prevent, limit, and combat ISA. The extent of the restriction zone will be determined by local factors such as the location of other sites, distance conditions, and current conditions. The restriction zone is expected to cover an area of approximately 10-20 km from the affected site.
