As part of its growth strategy in the Iberian market - this is Spain and Portugal -, Mowi announced today the inauguration of its renovated production plant in Zaragoza, Aragon region, Spain. With this modernization, the Norwegian salmon farmer makes a clear commitment to the Spanish market. The new facility is designed to strengthen the product offering, expand the portfolio, and ensure the best quality salmon.

"Our plans in Spain are ambitious; we want to continue to strengthen our market position by closely analyzing the particular needs of consumers in order to offer new products that meet them," said Isabel Lorea, Category Leader Fresh WE & Marketing Manager at Mowi Iberia.

Lorea claimed that the renovation of the Zaragoza production plant is a clear example of Mowi's commitment to Spain. "It will allow us to increase our production capacity and strengthen our product offering," she added.

According to the salmon company, the new plant symbolizes a step forward in Mowi Iberia's mission to lead the Iberian market in the production and distribution of fish products, maintaining its dedication to innovation, sustainability, and quality at each stage of the process.

As Mowi's global CEO Ivan Vindheim recently pointed out during the company's Q2 2024 results presentation, beyond 2024, they aim to continue to "grow faster" than the wider industry.

Increased operational efficiency and improved customer responsiveness

As part of the company's commitment to the growth of the Spanish market, Mowi has established a roadmap to promote the development of new products and the entry into new points of sale to meet the growing demand for fresh salmon.

The new facility is equipped to process bulk fish and products packaged in a protective atmosphere (MAP). This modernization not only strengthens Mowi's offer for the professional market in Spain and Portugal but, as part of its business plan, will also allow the company to orient its offer towards the fishmonger channel, a sector that the salmon producer considers key to its strategic growth in this market.

In addition to the increase in production capacity, the improvements at the Zaragoza plant have also had a notable impact on efficiency and operational processes by centralizing all operations in a single space.

"We are very proud of the improvements implemented in this new plant," stated José Antonio Merodio, Mowi's Production Manager Iberia. "We have made a significant investment in technology and machinery, which will allow us to be more efficient and optimize our processes to deliver the highest quality products to our customers more effectively."

With a specialized team of 150 people, Mowi's new plant in Zaragoza will also boost the economic development of the Aragon region, an inland area located in northeastern Spain.
