Bama Sea Products, one of the largest and most diversified seafood processors in the Southeast U.S., announced yesterday the appointment of industry veteran Guy Lott as its new Chief Commercial Officer.
In the announcement, the company highlighted that Lott's extensive experience in the seafood industry, along with his strong connections with major restaurant chains, large retailers, and fine dining establishments, will drive Bama's ongoing sales strategy.
Guy Lott began his career at the other end of the value chain, in the kitchen, first as a chef in Alabama restaurants, then as a corporate chef and sales executive for several food brokers, including Advantage Waypoint.
Subsequently, he held positions as Vice President of Sales at Harvest Select Catfish and Regal Springs Tilapia, the world's largest vertically integrated tilapia company, where he helped initiate a new era, managing the ownership change from a family-run business to a multinational company.
From there, Lott went on to serve as Vice President of Global Sales at Pacifico Aquaculture, the world's first and only producer of true ocean-raised striped bass, a position in which Bama Sea Products' new CCO led the team to develop a market for this new species in both the U.S. and Mexico.
After two and a half years, he moved on to become Chief Commercial Officer of offshore aquaculture technology leader and marketer of Kanpachi, Forever Oceans. Then, in his most recent position, Lott served as Vice President of Sales at Aquamar, one of the largest surimi producers in the U.S. and a leader in convenient seafood solutions. As WeAreAquaculture reported, he came to the company to accelerate Aquamar's efforts to drive seafood consumption through innovation.
In addition, Guy Lott is active in the U.S. National Fisheries Institute, where he previously served on the organization's Board of Directors.
Michael Stephens, CEO of Bama Sea Products, was enthusiastic about the arrival of Guy Lott to the team to lead its sales efforts. "We pride ourselves on having some of the most talented and quality-oriented individuals in the seafood industry. Guy exemplifies these qualities and will be instrumental in driving our continued growth with customers who share our values," he said.
"Like the rest of our leadership team, Guy brings extensive experience across the value chain, from working in plants and developing new products to managing large, successful programs and spending time around the Gulf Coast catching fish himself," Bama Sea Products CEO added.
In its note on the appointment, the seafood processor company claimed that the addition of Lott completes the executive team, bringing Bama closer to its goal of expanding Americans' access to premium seafood products and increasing overall seafood consumption.
On the leadership team, the new Chief Commercial Officer has joined CEO Michael Stephens, Vice President of Purchasing Adam Zewen, Vice President of Operations John Jackson, Operations Director Brian Jackson and Vice President of Quality Assurance Fred Stengard.
Commenting on his appointment, Lott said Bama Sea Products has "tremendous opportunity" to reintroduce consumers to what he called the best seafood in the world. "This isn't just about selling shrimp—it's about honoring the generations of hardworking families along the Gulf Coast who have dedicated their lives to bringing one of the world’s best protein sources to the table: wild-caught US shrimp," he stated.
"For years, I've had the privilege of knowing and working alongside the Stephens family on shrimp and finfish programs, and their commitment to quality is second to none. I'll never forget when Mr. Stephens, the founder, told me, 'Nothing ever leaves Bama that I wouldn't proudly serve my own family.' That standard—quality above all else—is what drives me," the new CCO of Bama Sea Products continued.
"We have a chance to not only elevate the seafood industry but to make a real difference in the lives of the fishing families who sustain it. By expanding access to premium, sustainably harvested seafood, we can help preserve their traditions, protect our coastal waters, and give consumers a seafood experience that is second to none," Guy Lott concluded.
As the appointed Chief Commercial Officer recalled, Bama - which today is a leader in U.S. shrimp production and other raw and value-added seafood products - was founded by John Stephens in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, in 1979. Now headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, it operates a 100,000-square-foot processing and distribution facility that serves customers in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
