Equipment suppliers Selstad and Badinotti have announced a joint venture for the creation of a shared production plant for aquaculture and fishing equipment in Africa. Located in Larache, Morocco, the plant will produce trawls and aquaculture cages using a large number of netting materials.

Recently, Badinotti Group announced the acquisition of Maisma Morocco SARL. Now, we learn this site will be the location of the new joint facility by the Italian and Norwegian companies under the name Maisma Net Services.

A perfect match

In announcing the agreement, the two companies emphasized that both Selstad Group and Badinotti Group started out as family businesses, which makes them share common values. Both also have a complementary geographic presence that will be favored by this alliance.

While Selstad supplies nets and services to the ocean industries in Northern and Western Europe, South Africa, and Asia-Pacific, Badinotti provides comprehensive fish containment solutions in Southern and Central Europe, North America, South America, and North Africa. This cooperation will now enable them to offer them globally from the Maisma Net Services facility.

"This joint venture marks a significant milestone for both Selstad and Badinotti, as we combine Selstad's expertise in design solutions from the North Atlantic with Badinotti's extensive experience in net production and fish containment across the southern oceans," Badinotti Group CEO, Christian Torres, and Selstad Group CEO, Hans Petter Selstad, explained in a joint statement.

Giancarlo Badinotti, President of Badinotti, also emphasized the importance of this collaboration: "We believe there is a natural complementarity between our markets, products, and capabilities," he said. "Moreover, we share values as family businesses, which gives us a long-term vision for our operations. We believe that shared values and common goals are the key to success in these types of agreements, and with the Selstad team, it has been a perfect match."

Exchange of expertise

Badinotti was founded by the Badinotti family in Italy in 1910, and the Selstad family founded Selstad in Norway in 1953. As Hans Petter Selstad pointed out, both companies have long been in the industry striving to be the leading innovators. "By working together, we can combine generations of experience and in-depth product knowledge," Selstad Group CEO added. Badinotti Group CEO, Christian Torres, spoke along the same lines.

"Badinotti's strategy is based on four key pillars, one of which is to build solid expertise and a global vision while maintaining a strong local presence, either directly or through top-tier partners," he said. "This objective is fully achieved with Selstad, with whom we share a history and common values, driving aquaculture and fishing globally. We bring 114 years of experience in fish containment solutions across Chile, Canada, Peru, the United States, and Europe, and we are confident that the exchange of our expertise will be crucial for the success of this new partnership."

For his part, Hans Petter Selstad added that Selstad has established a solid understanding of aquaculture and fisheries through generations of design and production, so they can offer expertise and quality. The Selstad Group CEO sees great potential in this joint venture named Maisma Net Services.

"As two family-owned companies sharing the same values, we have found a natural synergy in our global production and service sites, complementing each other's expertise," he said. "The location in Morocco, close to Europe, will allow us to reduce delivery times and ensure high standards of quality control."
