The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries in Norway has confirmed the increase in the subsidy rate for the coastal shrimp fleet. This increase, from 3 kroner to 4.50 kroner per liter of fuel, takes effect immediately and will also apply retroactively from January 1, 2024.

For this reason, the Norwegian Parliament has allocated 22,343,000 Norwegian kroner for the subsidy in the 2024 budget. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries regulates this subsidy to ensure an appropriate disbursement.

According to the Ministry, the scheme applies to the coastal shrimp fleet nationwide.

"Compared to other parts of the fishing fleet, the coastal shrimp fleet is still in a particularly challenging economic situation due to high industry costs and declining shrimp quotas in the south," the Minister of Fisheries and Seafood, Marianne Sivertsen Næss explained.

Less than a month ago, the Ministry also announced the implementation of new conditions for Norwegian vessels on the snow crab catch to ensure "better profitability".
