The year 2021 was full of challenges for Aker BioMarine, but due to the effort and the "can-do" attitude they managed to grow in 2022. This is shown in their 2022 annual report, in which the growth objective continues while improving human and planetary health.

As shown in their report, in 2022, the company has focused on streamlining operations and identifying efficiencies. In this way, they have improved both sales and collection.

The company's main activities include growth in aquaculture. It exceeded the previous year's production by 19%, reaching a new historical production record.

However, Aker BioMarine has gone even further. Thanks to an efficient supply chain and logistics, they also made significant progress in Animal Health and Nutrition in 2022. Feed producers, as well as fish and shrimp farmers, are benefiting from the proven advantages of QRILL products in terms of the growth and health of their marine species. Besides its own-consumer brand, Kori, also has a special mention in its report. This continued to grow throughout the year, with an increase in both distribution and same-store sales.

Sustainable fishing as a priority

One of the company's pillars has always been sustainability and Aker BioMarine has excelled beyond expectations in 2022.

New research concluded that the Antarctic krill fishery is the cleanest in the world due to its extremely low bycatch rate. Furthermore, the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership results show that Aker BioMarine is an A-rated fishery for the seventh consecutive year.

Moreover, in their report, they explained that one of their top priorities is to contribute to a thriving Antarctic ecosystem. For that reason in 2022, they have committed an additional $1 million to support the Antarctic Wildlife Research Fund and its work to ensure a resilient Antarctic and up-to-date information.

Innovation and technology as skill

Aker BioMarine is investing in technology and innovation of different kinds, as the company believes this is the way forward. From projects to investigate the effects of krill oil on knee osteoarthritis to the expansion of circular plastics for zero waste.

The company initiated a program at the end of 2022 that aims to reduce costs while strengthening the core business platform to create a stronger company.
