The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) published a report that shows that Americans consumed 19 lbs of seafood per capita in 2020, down from 19.2 lbs in 2019. Shrimp is still the favorite seafood product followed by salmon.

The NFI acknowledged that the numbers do not reflect the pandemic consequences that affected seafood consumption. 2021 Top 10 List, coming out next year, will hopefully reflect better the seafood market changes.

Further, 2021 figures represent a robust retail demand for salmon products. For example, the surge in salmon prices in all markets allowed the good data of Mowi's first quarter. "I firmly believe this will continue to boost demand going forward," CEO Ivan Vindheim said.
