Atlantic Sapphire announced its 2022 annual report with quarters that are already being monitored and others that are very promising, highlighting Q3 with 1560 tons RLW (Round Living Weight). Thus, operational success has been the main achievement. However, the last and first quarters of the year, Q4 2022 and Q1 2023, were difficult by higher fish mortality rates.

Atlantic Sapphire's 2022 annual report is characterized by operational success. Some examples are the new ozone system, which improves water quality, the "chiller bank" as a reliable thermostat, or the revision and "reset" of On-growing RAS systems, particularly the biofilters. Such applications have been successful in reducing costs while increasing quality.

At Atlantic Sapphire, operating costs are generally fixed in nature, except feed. Therefore, implementing improvements that reduce those fixed costs, and consequently, prices, make a key difference. Furthermore, it reinforces the macro driver of their sustainable and responsible vision as a vision that is worth investing in, both as a consumer and as a shareholder. Such is the case with its US project with a harvest volume of 2,253t HOG in 2022, up 26% from 1,788t HOG in 2021; where operations continue on phase 2 of the building in Miami.

"After a year with considerable heavy lifting on the operational side, we are seeing improvements in the key parameters that will lead to higher productivity, fish health, and product quality," said Johan E. Andreassen, the co-founder y chairman.

Strong in the face of adversity

Atlantic Sapphire, like all other companies, has had a difficult 2022. The consequences of the covid-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian war did not provide an easy background for the industry. However, the company has been able to manage.

All the achievements made this year by the company show how it is maturing. As Andreassen explained, "Our freshwater systems are consistently performing in line with the best smolt producers in the world. Our filleting line was installed and commissioned leading to increased quality control, yields, and cost savings once we are at scale. We know how much it costs to operate the facility and has executed many cost-saving opportunities. More have been identified for 2023."
