Nordic Halibut, located in Averøy, Norway, received a boost to its development plans with the recent approval of its zoning plan by the Tingvoll municipality council. The plan allows for the construction of a land-based halibut facility at Torjulvågen, Tingvoll, with a projected yearly production of 1.25 million juveniles, expected to be fully operational by 2027. This milestone in the company's progress moves it closer to its goal of producing 9,000 tonnes HOG by 2030.
CEO Edvard Henden stated, "We are thrilled that the Tingvoll municipality continues to support our plans to create local jobs and value creation through the development of a new land-based halibut facility."
The Torjulvågen facility will feature three 1,500m2 production units and will be based on a 100% flow-through system, taking advantage of the nearby fjords for high-quality water. The facility will also utilize its own renewable solar power for energy efficiency and sustainability.
– The new land-based facility will for the first time in the company`s history be fit-for-purpose and designed for halibut farming specifically, without any legacy cost both in terms of location and technology.
