Gigante Salmon initiated the production in the first part of the Rødøy facility. The initial release of 640,000 smolts, averaging approximately 100 grams each. However, the second delivery experienced "notable mortality," the company published.

Today, Gigante Salmon has provided an update on the extent of mortality following the second smolt delivery: "Unfortunately, 20,000 fish have died after being released. Primarily, these come from the second of two smolt deliveries, where a significant number of fish were already dead upon arrival."

"The total mortality for the smolt release of 640,000 is almost 3%. Regardless of the cause, it is distressing to witness the death of the fish, and the fish health service is currently working to determine why this happened," the company added.

The construction of the Rødøy facility was interrupted due to weather-related shipping delays, transport, and installation of risers (seaside), as well as practical issues occurring during the preparation of the technical area.

Despite the situation, Gigante Salmon noted: "It is particularly uplifting to see that the facility is operating as planned, the fish are settling well in the tanks, and they are eating."
