The Chilean Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) maintains a national biological ban on the corvina resource to support its development and conservation, preventing its extraction during this peak spawning period.
In this way, and for nearly ten years, this measure, which is not subject to catch quota regulations, protects its reproductive process and helps sustain population renewal.
In more detail, during October and November, the capture, commercialization, transportation, processing, production, and storage of the prohibited species and their derived products are forbidden.
Additionally, the fishing of corvina has a restriction that bans its capture using fishing gear such as seine and trawl nets since the year 2000, explained Marcelo García, coordinator of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Approach unit at Subpesca.
"The biological ban is now widely accepted and highly valued by users with a greater interest in conservation and sustainability," he confirmed.
