Cargill will begin to add algal oil into all feed delivered to the Norwegian market. This ingredient has the potential to reduce fish farmers' dependence on fish oil in aquaculture production. According to the company, the ingredient will be included in its feed at the beginning of April.
Before, Cargill delivered feed with algae oil to Norwegian salmon farming and harvesting giant Leroy Seafood. The Bergen-based company tested the ingredient at an early stage. Cargill credits Leroy so it creates a demand for inclusion of algal oil and making the ingredient commercially viable.
