Salmones Camanchaca started the first financial quarter strong and with an even better outlook. The figures show an increase of 41% and reach USD 114 million (EUR 105 million), thanks to a higher volume of Atlantic and Coho Salmon as well as a 15% increase in the price of Atlantic Salmon. These facts were possible thanks to the agility and flexibility of the company.
The Q1 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, has been better for both salmonids. On the one hand, Atlantic salmon harvests were 37% higher than in 1Q 2022 and had better production performance. On the other, Coho closed the season with an increase of 134%, in line with the company's growth plan for this fish which expects to double by 2023-2024.
The company's adaptability and improved oceanographic conditions have played a relevant role in achieving these impressive figures. FAN's strategic geographic diversification and technological advancements have enabled high fish survival rates. Moreover, favorable oceanographic conditions in Chile's Southern-Austral zone have further contributed to the positive outcomes.
Therefore, as the vice-president of Salmones Camanchaca, Ricardo García Holtz, explained, "Having had a more normal summer, without serious oceanographic incidents, allowing a higher life expectancy in fish, which was supported by our strategy of reducing sea risks. This added to the increase in the Coho and Atlantic harvests and to the fact that there was a strong world demand, allowed us to have a good start to the year."
The outlook is even better since the plantings were conducted. So, under normal production parameters, Garcia projected that Atlantic salmon harvests for the completed 2023 will be higher.
