Grupo Nueva Pescanova has added a new freezer trawler to its Namibian fleet, NovaNam, to strengthen its international fishing operations and investment in the African country.
The Olupale is 59.82 meters long, has a beam of 12.65 meters, a fish hold capacity of 900 cubic meters, and accommodation for a crew of up to 66 people.
Its main role will be the fishing and onboard processing of hake, one of the main species targeted by NovaNam in Namibian waters. Its production capacity reaches up to 2,500 tonnes of finished product per year.
This vessel, which will become the most modern fishing vessel operating in that fishing ground, has been under construction since 2024 and will undergo a fitting-out, equipment installation, and provisioning process. It was acquired from Mar de Arbo SL and is expected to begin operations in Namibian waters during the last quarter of the year.
The Olupale will replace the Mar del Cabo, which suffered a fire last year. NovaNam, a subsidiary of Nueva Pescanova, has maintained a strong presence in Namibia since 1990, where it continues to contribute to the economic and social development of local communities.
In March, the company renewed its FISH Standard for Crew certification, which it first earned in 2022 as the world's first fishing company to receive it. This international certification recognizes safe, fair, and ethical working practices on board its fishing vessels.
Back in 2022, NovaNam became one of the first companies in the world and the first in Namibia to obtain the FISH Standard for Crew certification. This certification verifies compliance with ethical labour standards on board its fishing vessels.
