The Salmon Scotland Wild Fisheries Fund will focus this year on wild salmon fisheries projects to help address the decline in numbers of wild salmon in Scottish waters. It will be granted by Salmon Scotland and amounts to £140,000.

Salmon Scotland wants to encourage projects developed by organizations that have difficulties accessing funding opportunities. Both ambitious and small-scale applications are welcome.

Also, the fund wants to prioritize practical projects in the field. Therefore, no projects of a purely academic or research nature will be funded.

Promoting investment from the salmon farming sector

The fund has emphasized the use of contemporary salmon repopulation techniques using hatcheries, especially on highly vulnerable rivers. Those projects that include these subjects will be studied with "particular interest".

Salmon Scotland should be able to add the projects to any communication material, particularly to showcase the activities of the fund. Applicants will send Salmon Scotland regular updates and photos/videos.

Finally, the fund reminded potential applicants that all proposals should be in line with the current Marine Scotland stocking advice and early discussion with the appropriate licensing department is encouraged.
