Kyokuyo Co., Ltd. has confirmed that its subsidiary Ocean's Kitchen Corporation, based in Washington, USA, has completed the construction of an imitation crab meat (also known as surimi) production factory.

It was decided to build the factory in Washington, near Alaska, where there is a significant activity of Alaska pollock surimi production, the main ingredient in imitation crab meat.

According to the Japanese company, this product is expected to gain more popularity due to its high protein and low-calorie content. Surimi is primarily consumed in urban areas of the U.S., as an ingredient in salads and California rolls.

Through Kyokuyo Foods Co., Ltd., they will produce products with specifications for the U.S. This domestic subsidiary has been producing imitation crab meat for the past 40 years.

"As we promote the expansion and strengthening of our overseas business, we are working to enhance our production and sales structures overseas and will continue to develop our bases," Kyokuyo's statement reads.

About Kyokuyo

Kyokuyo has worked to develop its marine products businesses since its founding in 1937. Currently, the company offers four businesses centered around fish: marine products, fresh foods, processed food, and logistics.

As published in late January, one of Kyokuyo's subsidiaries, Kyokuyo Europe B.V, will undertake the third-party allocation of newly issued shares through a capital increase by Kocaman Fisheries Export and Import Trade, a Turkish seafood processor.
