In a statement published on its LinkedIn page, Kangamiut Seafood announced that, effective January 1, 2026, it will acquire 75% of Laeso Fish Ltd., based in Peterhead, Scotland, and currently wholly owned by Læsø Fiskeindustri.

Kangamiut Seafood is the original cornerstone of the Kangamiut Group, a family-owned company that bases its business model on partnerships. Its companies are typically co-owned with local management, each operating independently and enjoying synergies across the group, as well as adopting the original family values of responsibility, reliability, and respect.

In this case, the Danish supplier and distributor of frozen fish and seafood has already announced that the current owners of Laeso Fish Ltd., the also Danish Læsø Fiskeindustri, which supplies langoustine, prawns, and crab sticks and which, according to the statement, is already its partner, will continue to own 25% of the company.

"We look forward to expanding our already great partnership with Læsø Fiskeindustri!" wrote Kangamiut Seafood in its LinkedIn announcement.

"The acquisition is based on a desire to strengthen the cooperation between Kangamiut Seafood and Læsø Fiskeindustri and to strengthen the joint position in the sales market for our delicious langoustines," it also explained.

A wide, frosty range of Scottish langoustine

As mentioned above, Laeso Fish Ltd. is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Læsø Fiskeindustri, which explains on its website that, based in the Scottish fishing town of Peterhead, which has traditional fishing in its immediate surroundings, this division offers a wide, frosty range of langoustine caught in the waters surrounding Scotland.

Founded in 1963 by fishermen from the small island of Læsø in the Kattegat strait—which separates Denmark and Sweden—about 40 kilometers from Frederikshavn, today 95% of all shares in the company are still owned by fishermen, their descendants, employees of Læsø Fiskeindustri, and people connected to the island.

As for the products from its Scottish division, Læsø Fiskeindustri explains that, other than the fact that the langoustine come from different waters than the langoustine distributed from Denmark, the principles are the same as in their other divisions: hand sorting and quality assurance, as well as a very special freezing technique that ensures the langoustine retain their flavour and nutrition properties.

From January 1, these langoustines from Scotland will be distributed through the commercial networks of the Kangamiut Group, one of Denmark's largest seafood exporters, which, as mentioned above, offers a wide range of quality frozen fish and seafood, including species such as halibut, cod, haddock, pikeperch, saithe, mackerel, herring, langoustine, cold-water shrimp, and, for the past two years, following its agreement with Oceanpick, barramundi.
