Lerøy Seafood Group has announced the opening of Lerøy Korea, the Norwegian group's new sales office in South Korea, which will be led by seafood executive Mingu Jeong.

In a news announcement posted in LinkedIn, Lerøy stated that Jeong has been based in Norway for the past five years with responsibility for the Korean market, but has now "returned home to establish and expand our presence in this dynamic, fast-evolving region".

The company described Asia as a "critical growth market", noting high demand for Norwegian salmon, but stressing that Lerøy's presence in South Korea would focus not just on salmon but the group's "entire seafood portfolio".

Trout appears to be one of the key focus areas, according to the announcement, which said that one of Lerøy Korea’s key priorities is to introduce Norwegian fjord trout to Korean consumers.

The company has already launched its trout on two of Korea's largest online platforms for fresh food, Coupang and Market Kurly.

“The past six months have been an incredible journey - filled with challenges but also exciting opportunities. Moving my family, setting up the office, and navigating this transition has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Being on the ground allows me to truly understand and contribute to the market we serve,” Jeong said.
