Seafood giant Royal Greenland has named Toke Binzer as its next chief executive officer, with his appointment taking effect on 1 December 2025.
"With this appointment, Royal Greenland strengthens its strategic leadership and confirms both its international position and its roots in Greenland," the company said in a press release announcing the appointment.
Binzer, who was raised in Greenland's capital Nuuk and returned there with his family in 2022, brings international business experience, having previously held senior roles at US multinational technology firm IBM and Danish telecommunications company TDC.
Most recently, he was CEO of Greenlandic postal and telecommunications company Tusass, where according to Royal Greenland, he "gained an in-depth knowledge of Greenlandic business and societal conditions".
"This combination of international experience and local insight makes him particularly suited to lead a company that is both an international market leader and a central societal player in Greenland," Royal Greenland said.
Niels Thomsen, chairman of the board at Royal Greenland, said the company "looks forward to the opportunities his experience and leadership style will bring."
"We share the ambitions of high professionalism, execution power, and a strong anchoring in Greenland – so I am very much looking forward to the collaboration."
The appointment comes as Preben Sunke, who has been serving as interim CEO, prepares to step aside. Sunke was appointed to the interim role in February 2025 after the company announced the departure of former chief executive Susanne Arfelt Rajamand after 3 years at the helm.
"It has been an honour to lead Royal Greenland, albeit for a short time," Sunke said. "I now look forward, together with the rest of the Board, to collaborating with Toke to execute the strategy and restore the economy."
The appointment of Binzer is in line with Royal Greenland's previously-stated objective to ensure the members of its senior management team are physically based in Greenland - a policy which provoked the departure of former Chief Financial Officer Nils Duus Kinnerup last year, after 17 years with the company.
