The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) has released its biennial rankings, which classify the world's most influential companies in areas such as ecosystem improvement and green transition, affordable and sustainable food, respect for human rights, and gender equality, and the Nueva Pescanova Group has been ranked as the first fishing company in the Ocean Benchmark 2026, in which WBA measures how the world's leading companies contribute to the sustainable management of the oceans and coastal ecosystems and ensure responsible social practices are implemented.

Within this ranking, which evaluates the 125 most important companies in the world for their socially responsible practices and their contribution to sustainable ocean management, Nueva Pescanova has also been ranked as the leading Spanish company in sustainable management of oceans and coastal ecosystems and sixth globally. It is also third among food companies, behind only Nestlé and Mowi.

According to WBA, in the Ocean Benchmark 2026, on average, across all social, environmental, and governance indicators, offshore wind energy and seafood emerge as the best-performing ocean sectors, with average scores of 28/100 and 21/100, respectively.

However, the international non-profit organization also noted that the seafood sector, in particular, has the widest dispersion of scores, indicating substantial variation in performance within the sector.

Optimal performance also in the Nature, Food and Agriculture and Just Transition rankings

To compile its rankings, the World Benchmarking Alliance assesses the sustainability and performance related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 2,000 "key" companies in seven interconnected system transformations: social, food and agriculture, decarbonization and energy, circular, digital, nature and biodiversity, and urban.

These transformations are designed to address the most critical social, environmental, and economic gaps, focusing on the industries with the greatest impact. Key industrial sectors assessed include automotive, electrical services, oil and gas, food and agriculture, apparel, extractive industries (mining), digital technology, and heavy industries (steel, cement, aluminium).

Thus, in addition to occupying leading positions in the Ocean Benchmark, Nueva Pescanova Group has also achieved an optimal performance in the Nature Benchmark 2026, which ranks the 750 most influential global companies for their actions to improve ecosystems. Within this ranking, the company has once again been ranked as the top Spanish company—among the six evaluated—and the second-ranked fishing company worldwide.

In addition, the Spanish group has also stood out in the Food and Agriculture Benchmark 2026, which ranks the sustainable management of the world's top 350 companies in the food sector. Here, Nueva Pescanova repeats as the top Spanish company and top fishing company, as well as occupying, as mentioned above, third place globally behind Nestlé—considered the world's largest food and beverage company—and Mowi—the world's largest salmon producer.

Finally, Nueva Pescanova Group highlighted its result in the Just Transition Benchmark 2026, calling it "highly significant." This is a tool that assesses companies' ability to integrate best practices in social equity, inclusion, and decent work within the green transition context. In this ranking, it achieved what it described as "an excellent result," placing in the top 1% of the 1,600 companies evaluated.

Commenting on the Spanish company's results on the different WBA rankings, Nuno Cosme, Chief Sustainability & CSR Officer at the Nueva Pescanova Group, said that "these results reflect the Group's commitment to ensuring the sustainable management of the resources and ecosystems on which it depends and reinforce our role as a global benchmark company in the transition towards a fairer and more sustainable industry model."
