Norwegian company Alotta has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply renewable energy to Mowi's salmon farming site at Huar Norte, located in the Los Lagos region of Chile.

This agreement was made possible through a funding round that raised NOK 63.5 million (approximately €5.5 million). The round was led by Wilstar Innovate AS, alongside existing investors Norselab, Umoe, Bondø Invest, and Pir Invest.

The funds will be primarily allocated to operations in Chile, which has over 600 active farming sites across Los Lagos, Aysén, and Magallanes, most of which are off-grid and rely on diesel generators.

"We design, build, and operate systems that deliver reliable, quiet power where it's needed most. By combining technology delivery through Alotta AS with long-term kWh supply from Alotta Energy, we create both impact and profitability. This is what makes our model attractive to global leaders like Mowi – they get clean power without having to own or operate the systems themselves," explained Alotta CEO Kari-Elin Hildre.

Alotta's floating solar power system for aquaculture enables rural and coastal regions without access to clean energy to more rapidly adopt renewables and eventually move away from diesel as their primary energy source.

Additionally, the Managing Director of Wilstar Innovate, Marcus Bleasdale, noted: "We have been impressed by the company's progress in the last 12 months, having successfully delivered its first projects in Norway and Chile. We look forward to being a long-term investor in Alotta and supporting their promising growth journey ahead."

In June, Mowi, in collaboration with the AKVA Group, unveiled Chile's first low-emission fish farming facility, with a solar-powered floating cage system at the Huar Norte facility. The AKVA Group provided the cage infrastructure and solar integration as well as maintenance and service support.
