Line Ellingsen, CEO of Ellingsen Seafood, has been nominated to become the new Chair of the Board of Sjømat Norge, the national association for the Norwegian fishing and aquaculture industry.

The nomination comes from the seafood federation's election committee, which has recommended her as the successor to current Chair Gunnar Haagensen, who has decided to step down, having held the role since 2023.

“Line has long-standing experience within Sjømat Norge, knows the organisation and the industry well, and has been a strong public voice for the sector. We believe she will make a valuable contribution as Chair," said election committee chair Britt Kathrine Drivenes, announcing the decision in a press release.

Sjømat Norge said that the nomination of Ellingsen follows the association's guidelines that board members should primarily be senior leaders of member companies, and that the board should reflect diversity in experience, regions, sectors, company size, and gender.

Ellingsen Seafood is a third generation family-run company, headquartered on the island of Skrova in Lofoten, Nordland county. The firm celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022.

In addition to Ellingsen’s nomination, the committee has proposed Arne Karlsen of Gunnar Klo as First Deputy Chair and Øyvind Oaland of Mowi as Second Deputy Chair. Oaland, who currently serves on the board, is also nominated as the new head of the aquaculture sector group, while Karlsen is set to lead the industry and trade group.

The new board will be formally appointed at Sjømat Norge’s General Assembly in Ålesund on 8 April 2025.
