UK supermarket retailer Waitrose has appointed seafood sustainability expert Katie Keay as its new Senior Manager for Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The role sees Keay move from a similar role in the Co-op, the UK’s fifth largest food retailer, where she was Senior Manager for Fisheries and Aquaculture since 2022.

Before moving into the retail sector, Keay worked in a variety of roles focused on seafood sustainability, including the role of Senior Fisheries Outreach Manager in UK & Ireland for the Marine Stewardship Council, responsible for the UK Fisheries Outreach team, with strategic oversight of the MSC's UK-based fishery improvement project workstream.

Prior to this, she worked for environmental law charity ClientEarth, developing and leading its sustainable seafood engagement for fisheries and aquaculture, including the UK's Sustainable Seafood Coalition.

In 2023, Waitrose operated 329 supermarkets across the United Kingdom, and was ranked 10th place within the UK’s ‘most sustainable brands’ by market research consultancy Impact’s Great Green Sustainability Study.
