The Tasmanian Liberal Government celebrates the growing prosperity of the recreational fishing community and announces a Strong Plan 2030 for Tasmania's Future, aiming to achieve more success in 2025.

Throughout 2024, the government extended support for the Rock Lobster Translocation Program with AUS $600,000 for the next four years. This will boost stock recovery and productivity, improving fishing activity.

Regarding this, Minister for Business, Industry, and Resources, Eric Abetz, explained: "For our commercial fishers, our efforts to ensure rock lobster exports can resume to mainland China were rewarded – meaning there will be Tasmanian crays heading overseas and money into the back pockets of Tasmanians."

In addition, support has been provided for the recovery of the sand flathead with a stock enhancement program funded with AUS $1.2 million. Also, Abetz mentioned the Better Fishing Program and the support for organizations like Anglers Alliance Tasmania and TARfish.

Furthermore, the government assured that it will develop a sustainable commercial sardine fishery in Tasmania investing AUS $250,000.

"All of this and more is backed in by our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future and I look forward to luring in more wins in 2025," Abetz assured.
