Bakkafrost Scotland, one of the country's leading salmon production companies, has one more vessel in a 24-meter fleet under the name "Turas a 'Bhradain", a work performed by the Macduff Shipyards company.
The company has chosen "The Voyage of the Salmon" as the name for its vessel, translated from Gaelic. Thus, valued at £2.6 million, it took a year to complete its construction and be on the seas. As a result, this order to Macduff Shipyards in Aberdeenshire marks the first of two custom-built vessels to be constructed by the yard for the company.
"By commissioning The Turas a 'Bhradain and the second workboat from Macduff Shipyards we have been in a position to support approximately 250 jobs at the yard," said Ian Laister, managing director at Bakkafrost Scotland. "[It] will hopefully help the business to continue investing in young people, where they are typically hiring 10-12 apprentices annually."
Turas a 'Bhradain will now operate on the west coast and the Hebrides, and from the middle of this month, will operate with the other two vessels, Ronja Star and Ronja Fisk. Its role in this mission will be a key part of fish health, as it will prepare the pens for the wellboat to carry out freshwater treatments.
