Norwegian land-based aquaculture firm Salmon Evolution has released its operational update for the first quarter, reporting it harvested 1,765 tonnes head-on gutted salmon in Q1 2026, in line with its guidance, achieving an all-in price realisation of about NOK 84 per kg (approximately €7.50 / $8.74).

The company said biomass growth during the quarter was held back by an adaptation period linked to new feed and by testing of revised operating protocols. However, it said it had achieved a "step-change in growth" after the changes were put in place, "reinforcing confidence in the stated operational targets for the coming periods".

Today's operational update also confirmed the first smolt for Salmon Evolution's phase 2 of its Indre Harøy hybrid flow-through facility in northern Norway, is due to take place within the next two weeks.

In its update, the company also said the conditions are now in place for a "significant improvement in biomass growth", with the effects expected to feed through into harvest volumes and fish weights during the second half of 2026.

In its last full quarterly report for Q4 2025, the land-based salmon producer reported it had made a loss amid weak prices, but said expansion work at Indre Harøy remained on schedule, with CEO Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen stating the company was "moving towards a clear inflection point, where we go from build up to execution."

Salmon Evolution plans to release 2.8 million smolt in 2026, marking a 65% increase compared with 2025.

The company's full quarterly report for Q1 2026 will be released in May.
