Icelandic manufacturing group Hampidjan hf has brought together its three aquaculture subsidiaries – Vónin Aquaculture, Mørenot Aquaculture and Fiizk Protection – under a new unified brand, ELDI.

According to the group, the restructuring establishes one of the most wide-ranging aquaculture service and technology providers in the sector.

The change is intended to expand Hampidjan’s position in what it describes as a "consolidating global market". The company says the new structure combines a larger product range, a single service network and a stronger platform for future development.

The merger will see Thomas Myrvold, currently CEO of Mørenot Aquaculture, appointed chief executive of ELDI.

“Our vision is to become the global provider of end-to-end aquaculture innovation. This means combining world-class technology, smart products, strong service capabilities and a global footprint with the local presence our customers rely on," Myrvold said via a press release.

"We want to help shape the future of aquaculture by acting as a global player and a solutions-focused innovation company, while remaining firmly rooted in the communities and regions we serve,” Myrvold added.

Merger will create "world's largest aquaculture service station network"

ELDI will offer a full product line across protection, equipment and aquaculture technology, backed by what Hampidjan describes as the "world’s largest aquaculture service station network".

Hampidjan also states that the new organisation is designed to speed up research and development in areas such as automation, digital tools and integrated farming systems to improve efficiency and environmental performance.

Hampidjan emphasised that despite the consolidation, local knowledge will remain central, with customers continuing to work with the same regional teams.

Hjörtur Erlendsson, CEO of Hampidjan and chairman of ELDI, said: “The opportunities in aquaculture have never been greater as the need for aquaculture products has never been more and is growing, not only in salmon but also in other fish species around the world.”

"Our goal is to be a driving force in the development of the industry and continue to grow on the strong foundation we have today; closer proximity to customers than others have, decades of knowledge and experience in the production of aquaculture equipment, Hampidjan’s corporate culture where relentless product development is at the forefront and the production efficiency that we are building up in India," Erlendsson said.

Hampidjan took over Faroese firm Vónin in 2016, adding Norway's Mørenot to the group in 2022, and FiizK Protection in August last year, following the restructuring of the FiiZK group.

The Icelandic-owned group said the formation of ELDI is expected to be completed by 1 January 2026, with integration work across the three organisations already underway, including collaboration on product development, service coordination and customer support to ensure continuity during the changeover.
