With the PREDIMAR system farmers will anticipate and mitigate potential environmental risks.

The Environmental Superintendency (SMA) in Chile and the French company Bioceanor have signed a collaboration agreement to implement the PREDIMAR system. This predictive tool will improve water quality management in the salmon farming industry.
Precisely, the PREDIMAR system can detect early changes in dissolved oxygen levels in the water at farming centers located in the fjords and southern channels of Chile.
These parameter drops can be identified up to 48 hours in advance, enabling a timely response to potential environmental risks associated with possible mass fish mortalities.
In addition to collaborating with companies, this information will be shared with other government agencies to improve institutional coordination and strengthen preventive management in the sector.
Regarding this collaboration, Superintendent Marie Claude Plumer emphasized: "This agreement strengthens our ability to anticipate and mitigate potential environmental risks. It is a project that will benefit both the Superintendency’s monitoring efforts and the regulated parties themselves, through the use of technology, innovation, and applied science, enabling the implementation of preventive actions in the face of potential contingencies."
The PREDIMAR system is funded by the General Directorate of the Treasury of the French Government through the FASEP program, which prioritizes projects that develop sustainable technologies.
"I am delighted to have participated in the milestone launch of the PREDIMAR project, led by the French company Bioceanor. This project exemplifies the excellence of French SMEs that combine sustainability and technical innovation, contributing to addressing the challenges faced by the SMA. It is a crucial step for Franco-Chilean cooperation and for the aquaculture sector in Chile," the French Ambassador to Chile, Cyrille Rogeau, expressed.
Moreover, Samuel Dupont, President of Bioceanor underlined: "The collaboration between the SMA and Bioceanor reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding marine ecosystems while ensuring the long-term viability of the salmon farming industry and the operational efficiency of the sector."
BiOceanOr is a start-up specializing in disruptive digital technologies to predict and monitor water quality for aquaculture. It raised approximately €1.5 million in equity and a €500,000 grant from the 'PREMICE' project under the i-Nov innovation program, an initiative launched by the French government to support and finance innovative projects in various sectors.
