After being certified under version 1.2 of the ASC Feed Standard, BioMar's subsidiary in Türkiye, BioMar Sagun, has become the first aquaculture feed manufacturer in the country to meet the requirements of the new version of this Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.
As the aquafeed company noted in its release, the ASC Feed Standard establishes requirements related to environmental responsibility, social and labor rights, health and safety, as well as responsible sourcing practices.
Launched in May of last year, during the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, from November 2025, all ASC-certified farms must use only feed certified under the organization's standard.
BioMar Sagun said that the achievement of this certification demonstrates its ability to meet these requirements, while promoting transparency and traceability throughout the feed supply chain.
"Achieving this certification reflects the dedication of our team and our commitment to supporting customers with feed solutions aligned with recognised industry standards," said Yasemin Issever, Managing Director at BioMar Sagun.
"It strengthens our ability to serve producers in Türkiye and the wider export markets while supporting their certification ambitions," she added.
In its announcement, the company said that achieving certification at this early stage demonstrates BioMar Sagun's readiness to meet growing sustainability expectations and its commitment to supporting the transformation of the Turkish aquaculture sector.
As mentioned above, the updated standard reinforces expectations regarding responsible sourcing, supply chain transparency, environmental performance and due diligence, while guiding the sector towards more sustainable and transparent raw material supply chains.
Therefore, BioMar emphasized that the milestone of being the first aquaculture feed manufacturer in Türkiye to meet the requirements of the updated ASC Feed Standard not only represents an important step for its subsidiary in the country but also for the development of responsible aquaculture in the region.
Obtaining this certification is especially relevant for producers supplying international markets, as market demand for ASC-certified seafood continues to grow, making access to ASC-compliant feed increasingly important for producers across the value chain.
Thus, in recent years, BioMar has steadily expanded its global network of ASC-certified facilities, including sites in Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Costa Rica, Norway, Denmark, France, and the United Kingdom. The Turkish subsidiary now joins this network, strengthening it and expanding regional access to ASC-compliant feed solutions.
Just two weeks ago, on May 28, BioMar went public with a valuation of DKK 10.85 million. A few days earlier, when presenting the expected valuation for the public offering, its CEO, Carlos Díaz, highlighted the aquaculture feed company's commitment to sustainable aquaculture.
"BioMar's strong commitment to advancing an efficient and sustainable aquaculture through feed solution and feeding technology, combined with our long and profitable growth track record in a market supported by rising global demand for farmed fish and shrimp appears to resonate well with potential investors," he stated.
BioMar Sagun's achievement of ASC Feed Standard v1.2 certification is a further step in the company's commitment to providing high-performance feed solutions that fully comply with the latest industry standards.
