BioMar's feed production facilities in Norway have now formally received Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification according to the ASC Feed Standard, the company has announced.

The certification of the facilities, located in Myre, Nordland county, and Karmøy, Rogaland county, mean that BioMar can now supply the Norwegian salmon farming sector with locally-produced feed that is also ASC compliant.

From October 2025, ASC certification under the Farm Standard will require that aquaculture farms source feed only from ASC Feed Standard-certified facilities.

“This certification is the result of our long-term efforts to ensure that feed production for aquaculture is done in a sustainable way, both for the environment and for people. We are proud to offer our customers feed that meets the strictest requirements for environmental and social responsibility,” said Håvard Jørgensen, Managing Director of BioMar Norway, in a press release announcing the certification.

BioMar announced that the ASC certification audits took place earlier this year, and comprised "a comprehensive evaluation of both sites’ operations, procurement systems, and traceability standards".

The Danish company has previously achieved ASC Feed Certification for its production facilities in Ecuador, Chile, the United Kingdom, and most recently in Costa Rica, which the company says "[enables] farmers across a wide range of species and regions to meet the increasing demand for responsibly farmed seafood".

In May, BioMar announced a partnership with Icelandic feed producer Fóðurblandan for the manufacture and distribution of aquafeed in the country, making it the only global feed manufacturer with production in Iceland.

The company previously announced it had made a strong start to 2025, with first quarter results showing "record" feed volumes and solid earnings growth across all business segments.
