BioMar's aquaculture feed plant in Nersac, France, has become the first facility in the country to receive ASC Feed certification. The company says the recognition strengthens its ability to supply ASC-conforming feed across species and regions in the West Mediterranean and Africa.

The Nersac site, which produces feeds for all life stages including hatchery diets, plays a central role in BioMar’s network. According to the company, the certification allows it to support ASC-certified producers “from the very beginning of the farming cycle”.

“We are delighted to celebrate BioMar France’s ASC Feed certification. As the first ASC certified feed production facility in France, BioMar demonstrates its strong commitments to sustainability and innovation, and sets a powerful example for others in the region to follow," said Camille Civel, ASC Regional Manager for Southern Europe, France and Italy, via a press release.

"This milestone marks a major step forward for responsible aquaculture in France,” she added.

The ASC Feed Standard covers environmental responsibility, social and labour rights, health and safety, and sustainable sourcing of raw materials. BioMar said the certification demonstrates its ongoing commitment to supporting responsible production.

BioMar's sites in France and Spain now ASC-certified, supplying western Mediterranean and Africa

“This certification strengthens our ability to support ASC-certified farmers at every production stage,” said Luis Garcia Romero, Managing Director at BioMar. “By offering ASC-conforming feed, we help our customers meet evolving market expectations and build value across the full value chain in the western Mediterranean region, as the Nersac factory in France together with the Dueñas factory in Spain are the responsible sites for supplying feed to the whole Western Mediterranean Europe and Africa.”

The Danish aquafeed company has previously achieved ASC Feed Certification for its production facilities in Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, and most recently, in Spain.

“At DNV, we celebrate the continued progress of BioMar Group’s sustainability strategy, with the recent integration of its French factory into this initiative,” said Javier Soria, Food Manager at certification body DNV Iberia.

“This site joins the other group facilities in the challenge of ASC certification, a key tool to ensure responsible and sustainable sourcing of animal feed, contributing to the overall sustainability of the entire food supply chain,” Soria added.

This latest BioMar certification comes at an opportune moment for the feed manufacturer, as from October 2025 onwards, all ASC-certified farms must demonstrate that they source feed only from ASC Feed Standard-certified facilities.
