De Heus Animal Nutrition has opened a fish feed mill in Viet Nam’s Vinh Long Province with annual production capacity of 168,000 tonnes, the company has announced.
The plant is the company’s first facility dedicated specifically to producing feed for marine and cold-water fish species.
De Heus said the investment would expand its aquaculture feed range and increase its ability to supply farmers in Vietnam and overseas.
The mill will produce specialised diets for species including sea bass and barramundi, as well as other commercially farmed marine fish. The company said the facility would target growing demand for feed used in high-value aquaculture production.
Production technology for the site was sourced from Europe and the US, according to De Heus. The facility will operate under standards including ISO 22000, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council’s feed standard and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) requirements.
De Heus said measures to improve raw material efficiency, operational performance and energy use had been incorporated into the mill’s design.
“This investment reflects De Heus' long-term commitment to marine and cold-water aquaculture. Through specialised nutrition solutions and modern production technology, we aim to help farmers improve performance, enhance product quality and contribute to a more sustainable aquaculture value chain,” said Johan van den Ban, chief executive of De Heus Vietnam and Asia, via a press release.
The new plant adds to De Heus’ existing aquaculture operations in Viet Nam. In 2024, the group opened a shrimp feed mill, also in Vinh Long province, with an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes. More recently, in January this year, De Heus Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement with Minh Phu Seafood Corporation, one of the world’s leading shrimp exporters, to promote a sustainable value chain for the shrimp industry in the Southeast Asian country.
This spring, De Heus announced its expansion elsewhere in Asia, officially entering the Korean and Philippine markets through its acquisition of Asian animal feed company CJ Feed & Care.
