Dutch executive based in Vietnam, Johan van den Ban, recently announced on his LinkedIn profile that he was starting a new position as CEO at De Heus Vietnam and Asia. The appointment is a promotion for him. The hitherto CEO of De Heus Vietnam adds to that position the role of CEO for Asia, replacing Gabor Fluit, who in turn has been promoted to the position of CEO at the parent company, Royal De Heus.
To bid him farewell, the De Heus Vietnam team held a special meeting and end-of-year party at which the new CEO of Vietnam & Asia congratulated his predecessor on becoming Global CEO and wished him "continued success" in his new journey. In his speech, Johan van den Ban also took stock of the year just ended.
"In 2024, De Heus achieved many outstanding milestones throughout its journey of 'Elevating Vietnam's Livestock Industry,' reaffirming our commitment to accompanying farmers by providing high-quality nutritional solutions and services, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s agriculture sector," he said.
"All of this is thanks to the relentless contributions and dedication of all employees. Notably, De Heus strengthened its safety initiatives, leaving significant marks in building a safety culture within the company. I hope we will continue working with full dedication and unity to achieve the goals we have set," he added.
De Heus was established in Vietnam in 2009, and since then, the feed company has gradually asserted its leading role in the development of animal protein production, including meat, eggs, dairy, and aquaculture. In 2024, it celebrated its 15th anniversary in the country, and its CEO - and now also CEO for Asia - has been there almost from the beginning.
He arrived in 2013 as Project & Business Development Manager and, as he tells in his LinkedIn bio, he did so by focusing on projects resulting from strategic partnerships and simultaneously seeking opportunities to export De Heus feed to other ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) markets.
Since then, Johan van den Ban has been promoted within the company. His next position was Managing Director of De Heus Myanmar, which he held for almost five years. He was then appointed General Director of De Heus Vietnam & Cambodia, and, two years later, he was promoted again, this time to the position of CEO of De Heus Vietnam.
One of the milestones during his leadership at De Heus Vietnam was the opening of a new shrimp feed mill in March last year. Located at Co Chien Industrial Zone, Vinh Long province, the facility, which occupies an area of 29,300 square meters, has an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tons. In his speech at the open ceremony, the then-only CEO of De Heus Vietnam recalled the country's potential for future investments, especially those related to aquaculture.
"With this investment, we are again showing the aquaculture market in general and the shrimp industry specifically that we are here to stay. Together with our partners upstream and downstream in the value chain, we are ready to further develop the shrimp industry in Vietnam with independent shrimp producers in a sustainable manner," Johan van den Ban said.
