Mowi Canada East has informed about the detection of pathogenic Infectious Salmon Anaemia virus (ISAv) at its Little Burdock Cove marine site and the actions it will take. This confirmation follows the public notice of suspect detection issued on July 30, 2022.

The Provincial Government Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture (FFA) have identified the infection, through the species-specific aquatic animal health surveillance program.

Consequently, the company will harvest the salmon from the affected cages. According to Mowi, this action is the most successful method for managing this virus. The two cages affected contain a total of 46,003 fish at an average weight of 2.7kgs.

The company is taking all responsible steps under the oversight of the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture. Also, it will follow government-approved policies.
