The Pacific Seafood Processors Association (PSPA) announced late last week that it had a new president: Julie Decker. An experienced woman with a long history in the industry and a background ranging from fisherwoman to management.
Although her last position before PSPA was as Executive Director of the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF), Decker has many years of experience in all sorts of roles. Fishermen, processors, and administrators of multiple fisheries organizations are a few of these roles. However, her professionalism has gone above and beyond, earning her recognition as a recipient of the 2021 National Angler Highliner Award, which calls attention to exceptional fishing leaders and their "dedication to improving the future of our fishing communities."
"Ms. Decker's approach as a fisheries leader in Alaska complements the goals of PSPA and our commitment to coastal Alaska communities. She routinely energizes the industry by encouraging innovation, expanding partnerships, developing broadly supported solutions, building consensus, and strengthening relationships. We are honored to have her lead in our mission of supporting and advocating for the Alaska seafood industry and the sustainable use of fishery resources." said John Henderschedt, PSPA Chairman.
The Pacific Seafood Processors Association (PSPA) has been a stalwart nonprofit trade association since 1914. Since its inception, it has diligently represented seafood processing companies in policy, regulatory, and legislative spheres for over a century. Their strategic focus encompasses pivotal areas such as federal and state fisheries management, sustainability, and facilitating access to seafood markets. Moreover, they also implementations tracing and labeling systems, oversee tax and trade, and navigate environmental regulations.
