Norwegian aquaculture company Andfjord Salmon has confirmed the completion of pool K1 and solid biological conditions in pool K0 at its land-based facility in Kvalnes, Andøy.

This follows the successful release of around 350,000 smolt, which took place on 30 September and marked the beginning of what the company described as a significant expansion of its fish farming operations.

These fish exhibit good external health, and 95 mortalities have been recorded, corresponding to a survival rate of 99.97%. In addition, their weight has increased by approximately 45% since release, representing a biological performance above expectations.

"The smolt has demonstrated a healthy appetite from day one and are growing faster than expected. This is a great start, but there is a lot of hard work to be done over the coming months before we can celebrate," indicated Martin Rasmussen, CEO of Andfjord Salmon.

Moreover, pool K1, the first newly constructed pool within the current expansion phase, has already been filled with seawater and will undergo further testing ahead of the planned release of approximately 750,000 smolt in early November.

"The smolt release in K0 was hugely successful and we are aiming to replicate this as much as possible when we release smolt into K1," added Rasmussen.

Andfjord Salmon completed its last production cycle in June 2023. Since then, it has been developing new pools, harbour facilities, and waterways, and announced a revised expansion plan that included a 20% increase in its production capacity.

A few days ago, experienced construction industry executive Gro Skaar Knutsen confirmed she was leaving its board of directors to take up a senior operational role overseeing construction work at development site in Kvalnes.
