The second edition of the Atlantic Aquaculture Forum (AAF) kicks off today on Terceira Island, Azores, organised by the AIR Centre in partnership with the Regional Government of the Azores and Escola do Mar dos Açores.

The two-day Forum taking place over 12-13 November will see aquaculture experts, policymakers and industry representatives from Atlantic nations meet to discuss sustainable aquaculture practices across the Atlantic region.

According to the organisers, the event aims "to strengthen regional cooperation and position the Atlantic as a leader in shaping the future of the blue economy."

Speakers will include Andreea Strachinescu from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, alongside experts from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde and Senegal.

The programme will address three themes: diversifying farmed species, developing sustainable production models, and integrating marine spatial planning with operational practices.

"Beyond technical discussions, this Atlantic Aquaculture Forum provides a unique opportunity to integrate science, policy, and industry perspectives in support of resilient aquaculture systems that foster economic opportunity for coastal communities while safeguarding marine ecosystems," the organisers state.

The event is being livestreamed with free registration for all online participants, and begins at 4pm UTC/GMT on 12 November.
