The Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) in Chile has confirmed that it will review and, if necessary, implement proposals to strengthen programs in educational institutions offering aquaculture-related specialties.
The liceos técnico-profesionales are secondary education institutions that offer training focused both on general education and on technical training in specific areas of the labor market. According to Subpesca, these schools contribute to building a more sustainable and diversified aquaculture sector.
Specifically, the initiative will explore the school cooperative model, with an emphasis on sustainability and territorial relevance, and will focus on aquaculture-specialized liceos within the framework of the 'Small-Scale Aquaculturist' classification.
Finally, the project will analyze management models and curricula, and design a training program on student cooperatives for both teachers and students in these aquaculture education centers.
The Aquaculture Technological Innovation Center, AquaPacífico, is collaborating on this initiative, which will be carried out over eight months and will include field visits, data collection, and the development of practical tools for the schools involved.
Just a few days ago, as part of the Women's Table for Artisanal Fishing and Related Activities initiative led by Subpesca, a group of 10 Chilean women received leadership training in the fishing sector through workshops focused on strengthening social organizations.
