Subpesca
The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) in Chile has approved 57 projects to be carried out under the research program for the regulation of fisheries and aquaculture in 2025.
The projects will be executed by the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP) and will focus on economic, fisheries, and aquaculture areas.
The findings will help to carry management and conservation measures and contribute to the sustainable development of extractive fisheries and aquaculture activities.
Specifically, the highlighted projects will include the economic monitoring of the national fisheries and aquaculture industry, monitoring and research on harmful microalgae and marine toxins (red tide), and the research and monitoring program for discards and incidental catch.
Additionally, initiatives will be included to monitor and assess national fisheries and conduct hydroacoustic evaluation studies.
Furthermore, Subpesca will decentralize activities to give a more active role to its Regional Fisheries Directorates, allowing for greater effectiveness and efficiency within the institution.
Finally, the time and specific geographical areas, and the hydrobiological resources, ecosystems, and oceanographic, environmental, and sanitary conditions, will be analyzed.
