Chile's Salmon Industry Association, through its scientific branch, the Salmon Technology Institute (Intesal), signed a collaboration agreement with the Foundation Encuentros del Futuro to promote science and the dissemination of aquaculture and ocean-related knowledge.
Through the agreement, both parties commit to joint initiatives such as organizing joint events, promoting projects focused on transparent information platforms, working groups, and coordinating relevant science.
Additionally, Intesal's Science Plan addresses the challenges of aquaculture in key areas such as biodiversity, seabed ecosystems, oceanography, coastal governance, and water resources, promoting the sustainable development of the sector.
Regarding this matter, the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément, expressed his satisfaction with the continued advancement of science to progress in the sustainability of the industry. "Aquaculture and environmental care are indeed compatible, and we hope that through this agreement, we can continue demonstrating this reality," he explained.
Finally, the executive vice president of the Foundation Encuentros del Futuro, Guido Girardi, warned: "Now, aquaculture has made tremendous progress, which we value, but it also has an entropy cost that we need to address; that is, the half-empty glass. And that half-empty glass can be improved. We are working with the scientists of this country, with the universities, precisely to see how we can improve it."
